National Poetry Month takes place in April of every year. Founded by the Academy of American Poets, the month is focused on promoting visibility for poetry and giving poetry lovers a chance to highlight this art form.
The NaPoMo Challenge
During National Poetry Month, affectionately shortened to NaPoMo, lots of writers take up the challenge to write a poem a day for the entire month. There are various websites offering prompts and ideas to get you writing.
It might sound impossible to write one poem a day for 30 days, but keep in mind that not all of these poems have to be epics. Writing a simple haiku or an American Sentence satisfies the requirements.
A Celebration of Poetry
Poets and readers alike can help celebrate National Poetry Month by attending poetry readings and events, purchasing chap book, and published poetry, as well as showing up and supporting local artists.

Party with Poetry
This is a great time to try out poetry for the first time or practice your skill set. The challenges are open to anyone, no matter their level of expertise. So sign up, enjoy, and have fun!
